The Rescue Line Launcher project is based on the need for a faster, safe method to rescue victims in a water related emergency. The device will help rescue teams save lives more efficiently than traditional methods. The device’s function is to provide a fast, safe and effective technique in a crisis situation that will aid in the rescue process by providing the rescuer with a farther, more reliable, and rapid rope launch while maintaining a safer environment for the rescuer himself. Besides water rescue this device can also be adapted for use in rock climbing, tactical/military use and more.
While there are other similar devices out in the market today the
Rescue Line Launcher is unique in the sense that the launcher does not use
explosives or heavy projectiles thus making rescuers able to perform operations
without unintentionally inflicting more harm to the victim.
Problem Statement
Every year many people die from drowning in rivers, lakes or at sea. In these types of situations there is very little time to react. Rescuers can easily loose sight of victims and a fast response is critical. Cold and fast moving waters can also be inherently dangerous to the rescuer.
Function of Device
To propel a rescue line to a victim more efficiently and further than throwing by hand. The device can be operated while keeping the rescuer out of harms way.
